World of Kids Books
WordPress to Shopify Migration
Full migration from WordPress and WooCommerce to a custom Shopify build for a children’s book publisher. Storytelling homepage, mega menu, author and collection landing pages, bundle support, gated resource library, built to hold up under traffic spikes from celebrity-author launches.
The project.
World of Kids Books engaged us to migrate their storefront from WordPress and WooCommerce to a custom Shopify build. The client publishes a catalog of children's titles with a strong publisher identity, not a single-author imprint. The brief required a storefront that holds up under traffic spikes from celebrity-author launches, reads as premium rather than template, and gives the editorial team full backend autonomy after launch.
We started clean rather than carrying over the half-configured Shopify store the client had been experimenting with. A premium Shopify theme as the architectural base, customized with hand-written Liquid sections so the homepage tells the publisher story before pushing product. The mega menu surfaces three real browsing axes (Shop by Author, Shop by Collection, Shop by Age), and each author and collection gets a dedicated landing page combining storytelling with conversion logic.
Catalog architecture handles the messy edges: some titles are sold directly with Shopify-hosted inventory, others redirect out to Amazon for fulfillment, and a flexible bundle structure groups titles into box sets. Tagging supports merchandising tools the client team controls themselves (New Release, Bestseller, Teacher Pick) without developer dependency.
Beyond the storefront, the build wires in a gated resource library where PDF, JPEG, and MP3 content unlocks on email capture (surfaced immediately rather than email-delivered), Mailchimp for lifecycle, GA4 with UTM-ready tracking, ad pixel infrastructure for future paid acquisition, and a deliberately lean app stack chosen to keep the site fast under the kind of traffic spikes a celebrity-author launch can produce.
How we built it.
Steps that mattered for this project.
Migration plan & theme selection
Reviewed the existing WordPress + WooCommerce setup, mapped the launch catalog, picked a premium Shopify theme as the architectural base. Wireframes for homepage, shop, author and collection pages before any code was written.
Custom Liquid sections & mega menu
Theme customized with custom sections: homepage as publisher story, mega menu with Shop by Author / Collection / Age, dedicated author and collection landing pages combining storytelling and conversion.
Products, bundles & gated resources
Catalog imported, bundle structure for box sets, Amazon redirects on externally-fulfilled titles, tagging system the client team controls. Gated resource library wired for PDF / JPEG / MP3 unlocks on email capture.
Performance & traffic-spike readiness
GA4, UTM tracking, ad pixel infrastructure, performance testing, CRO polish. Lean app stack to keep the site fast under the kind of traffic spikes a celebrity-author launch produces.
